Yes, and it doesn't matter how you fill it:

If you dig a hole six feet deep, for example, and fill half of it with dirt; you have a 3 foot hole.

If you take the same hole, bisect it vertically, fill one half of the holle with dirt. You still have a hole that is six feet deep; only it's half as wide as it was.

In either case, you still have a hole, and not an answer made out of 'hole cloth'
