The ultrasound weight is suppose to be close to accurate, but they can be off somewhat - a little more or less than what the baby actually weighs. Yours could be about right, my baby was born at 37 weeks & weighed 5lbs 10oz. Despite being early, he was healthy. Be prepared for a big baby, my doctors said if he didn't come when he did, he could of been around 9lbs.

They can be accurate. When I was 38 weeks pregnant the doctors measured my baby on the ultrasound and told me at that size the baby should weigh about 9 or 10 lbs. They said that I'd have to be induced...she came out weighing 9 lbs. exactly:) If you are concerned that your baby will be small, don't be. You have at least 2 weeks before anything will happen. Just enjoy toting the baby around in your stomach, because right now you don't have to wake up at 1:00 in the morning!

No, in my opinion, ultrasounds aren't that accurate. They are a guestimation, that's all. They said my son, who's a year old now, was going to be average, around 7 and a half pounds, from the ultrasound they said this, but just days later we was born and weighed almost 10 pounds!

Actually - it can be all over the place. I was told I was having a 9 lb baby and she was 7lbs 10oz. A friend of mine is very petite and was told she was carrying too big and would likely need a c-section for a 9-10lb baby (and hers was 7lbs 2 oz - a totally normal delivery).
My understanding is that ultrasounds are pretty great initially for size measurements and determining the overall health of the baby, but at 35 weeks they can only guess the average weight.

this is very true- it is only an estimate. Doctor told me at 33 weeks baby was around six pounds- she was born 5 weeks later and weighed 5pds 3 ounces. It's only an estimate based on lenth and development of bones

ultrasound measurements are pretty close but not all the time...sometimes the baby will grow slower or faster than the doctor will expect so the baby will be smaller or bigger than they think

Pretty accurate, when i was pregnant i had to learn to not listen to anyone because every experience is different and pain tollerance is also. Good luck with the little one.

I say that your doctors are the accurate ones. What sorts of people do you work with, what are their credentials?

It usually varies by about a pound or so.
When I was pg with my twins they said that they were measuring about 2lbs each.. they came and were 3lbs 1oz and 3lbs 7oz. 29 weeks gestation...
