Pull out the spark plug plug it back into the boot and lay it on the head. crank the engine and look for spark(a spark tester would work too). No spark I would say check your points You Probably have a Cast Iron Kohler with a big coil hanging off the side. They make a kit now for small engines to convert point systems to igniter systems. this is what you want to do it's easy and won't cost much. If you do have spark check to see if you are getting fuel. If you aren't check the carburetor and fuel filter. IF you are put the plug back in and crank the engine if you hear a wiffing sound comming from the head you have a blown head gasket and I would replace the head gasket on the old girl anyway. They usually due each year. That tractor's worth the effort. BY THE WAY your point are located under a small box on the side of the engine with wires leading to it.

Most likely your points are shot, the best thing to do is go out and buy the whole kit from your cub cadet dealer, or another hardware store they usually will have the universal kits, which comes with your points, stator, and condenser, and you might have to buy a new key pin for it.

Depends on the engine.
If it's a Briggs & Stratton engine the coil (or armature) come with a shear key,, and spacer .010" for setting the air gap at the flywheel.
This will be an upgraded coil that needs no points or condensor.
To get a replacement armature you will need to supply the ENGINE numbers stamped into the blower housing.

Check points, condenser, Plug, Coil, starter/generator, voltage regulator and all wiring. Check quality of gasoline, clean out the fuel filter and make certain it's flowing to the carburator. Check out the settings on that walbro, too.
