this is how u add positive and negative numbers for instince if u have -7+9 ok since nine is teh bigger number and its positive then that means that the answer will be postive ok anyways if teh sinbols are diffrent you subtract and if there the same u add so since there diffrent u say 9 - 7 = 2 and since i said that its gona be positive then that means that its positive 2 but if teh nine was negative and teh seven was positive then that means that the answer would of benn............................................ -2

well
negative numbers are riverses of positive numbers that you see :
14 -> -(14) -> -14 => 14 + (-14) = 14 - 14 = 0
so we have 2 numbers a,b (a>b>0) theres -(b) = -b
when you want to add -b to a you do this:
a>b => a=b+c => a + (-b) = b + c +(-b) = b + (-b) +c = b - b + c =0 +c = c => a+(-b)=a-b=c

(-)(+)= -
(+)(-)= -
