First you need to find out who has the best coverage in your area. to do this go to these two different websites. http://www.cellreception.com and http://www.deadcellzones.com

To read the best reviews on the carrier you choose http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/

To get great prices on new phones go to http://www.letstalk.com

There are so many choices... depends on what features you want. MP3 player, camera, PDA, web browser, email.

There are a few sites that have reviews on just about any phone. I always sort by lowest ratings, if there aren't too many then the phone will be a good choice.

If all the major cell providers carry the same phone then check the ratings for reception for that cell company in the areas you will be using the phone. Not much of a deal if you have poor reception and tons of minutes.

I would check them out at a store first, let them know what online stores are charging and if they can meet the price great, otherwise go with online as they usually can give you a better deal, read "free".
