I guess you would have to clarify what you mean. Popular how? If you are looking for most popular by vote it's Teddy Roosevelt. When he won his second term to office it was by the biggest margin ever. If you look at deeds, one could make the argument for Lincoln with his emancipation of the slaves. If we are talking about personality then we have JFK. Lots of presidents have been popular for lots of reasons.

I think it depends on how you look at the president and how you ask the question. Are you asking from an historical perspective or are you asking from how people viewed the President at the time of his tenure. I think George Washington or FDR are our most popular presidents from both perspectives.....Lincoln from an historical perspective and JFK from a contemporary approach.

he was a liar, a womanizer, and a off the wall liberal ( meaning he wanted busing, but his family was so wealthy privileged it would never have affected him )
