They start small and grow up, seriously, the start with a basic structure and put a cage around this. Two segments are then pulled apart and a new segment inserted in between. After fixinbg it to one end, those segments can be moved apart again and a new segment is inserted. Sometimes the crane is getting that tall that it could become instable and is anchored to the building. It was quiet interesting to see how this worked here in Manchester where they have just finished the tallest residential building in Europe.

Some cranes are assembled by large mobile cranes, others build thenselves by using a jack that moves the tower up a level so a section can be inserted underneath, the jib is built, section by section ether side of the tower, keeping the weight matched. You probably never see one being built because they are so fast to assemble.

The tall cranes at building construction sites are normally put up within a day or so. They usually come in pieces and the main part is erected from the back of a large truck.
Here is a link that explains all the different types of cranes.

they build them in the tall crane factory and they assemble them when you are not paying attention or are watching your house burning down ,that's if you have a house, but if you are homeless then you can watch them being assembled all the time but you would freeze because your house would not be burning cos you don't have one, hope this clears things up for you.........are you homeless?????
