There are good traits and bad traits to all house pets so I cannot say that I HATE any of them.
You say that you hate rats and mice and I'll bet that you never had a rat as a pet nor knew anyone that had one. They are actually highly intelligent, highly trainable, extremely clean and loving pets. Don't knock it until you try it.
Hate comes from fear, if you could conquer the fear you could conquer the hate.

Rats really make very nice pets and are excellent "starter" pets for children of elementary school age. They are social, affectionate and amusing.
I could not abide a reptile as a pet. My neighbor had a large boa and other smaller snakes (which he probably fed to the boa), he also had a three-foot monitor lizard which his girlfriend let out of the house because she was mad at him. After eight years I thank god that the man has moved!

ferrets. they're bigger than rats and mice, and can be just as vicious, if not more so. plus, people just let them run rampant around their house like a common cat. EW. no wonder they're an illegal pet in california.

Cockroaches. In Hong Kong I had a couple of geckos on the ceiling, but in Mumbai my Swiss colleague insisted we got the lizards out of the flat. Result - cockroaches. She didn't like them either.

I had a crocodile, but now I am a bit wary of it. Do they really grow more than 2 feet long?
