In the situation you explain, they do have that right.

It is only in situation of dire need that a organization or individual can be accused of what is called gouging. It's illegal.

There argument of course is that you don't have to buy it. You don't "need" it.

Often many costs go into a beer prices because the alcohol pays for a lot of the expenses, from rent to power, to staff, and even the live talent

Consider this, if a beer costs an establishment $2 to buy and they sell it for $5, that is a 150% mark-up.

Better be a damn good show!

hope this helps

If you bought one than I guess to them it's fine. They'll charge as much as they can as long as people are paying for it. If no one bought a beer at 7.50 I guarantee they would have lowered the price. All about the demand.

Hell no, it's not right, but all venues do that! I paid $9.00 for a beer at the last concert I went to. It was a 16oz glass, but still! That's f*cking outrageous!

That's robbery!

A similar thing happened to me at the Showbox in Seattle last week. Their well drinks (in a 6 ounce glass, no less) were $5.00 each. If your order totaled $10.00 or more (as my husband's and mine did) they automatically added a $2.00 gratuity! Of course this was written in micro-print on the bottom of the sign, so we inadvertently gave the bartender a total of $4.00 tip on our first round, two teeny bourbon & cokes. And of course they said nothing....
