Well, we could always switch over to mandatory sterilization, if that makes you feel better.

You apparently have no clue what he debate is about. On the off chance that you might actually be open to learning something about it:

The thing about the abortion debate is that the two sides are arguing entirely unrelated issues. Pro-life people say "abortion is bad". Pro-choice advocates say "The government not should be making personal decisions that like". It's not about abortion. It's about who gets to make the decisions.

Face it -- someone is going to choose. It's either going to be the individual, or it's going to be the majority (through enacted laws). If the majority gets to choose, then they are effectively imposing their belief system -- which is almost always religiously-based -- on everyone.

The concept of reproductive freedoms is not whether you agree with the individual choices being made. It's whether you think the government should have the right to take away and mandate those choices.

Why can't people understand that freedom of choice is not a minority value, even if the majority happens to disagree with the minority's choice?

Okay let's get one thing straight. Most "liberals" are not godless and many oppose abortion. However, all understand that it is the woman's decision if she wants to abort the baby.

I feel that if someone is mature enough to spread her legs, then she is mature enough to have the child. However, I will not oppress any person who feels she is doing what is best for her.

In response to Andy's response... "It doesn't answer your question, but the rates of crime are lowest where the rates of abortion are highest." Should we take away one's right to live just to make our country a safer place to live? Isn't this one of the arguments against the war on terror by those who believe the war is wrong?

But to answer your question, yes, I think religious conservatives do see abortion as the biggest threat to our country.

as far as i see it, since a woman has way more eggs than she will ever need...why can't she abort one in an extreme situation such as rape? if she did, the aborted fetus could serve stem-cell research and save many lives.

This is just conservative propaganda to keep idiots like Bush in office.
Paint liberals as Jesus haters and baby killers and you can keep any Republican, no matter how incompetent, in office.

It doesn't answer your question, but the rates of crime are lowest where the rates of abortion are highest.

Draw your own conclusion about unwanted offspring.
