Why would we need this referrance if there are no other 'beings' out in the universe? Doesn't it mean that there must be others living out there in this endless universe? (eg. Martians, Venusians, Mercurians etc.?)

Your question is really a matter of semantics but technically you're correct; but when was the last time someone refered to you as an earthling? It is just a classification tweak. Anyway, statistically it is highly highlt unprobable we are alone in the universe

Actually we are called humans, every living thing on earth is an earthling. The reason that the distinction is made is to have a all encompassing description for all life on earth.

You're misunderstanding all of the "there are no aliens" people. Most of them do believe that there are beings living on other planets. They just don't believe that there is any proof that we've been visited by them. Flashing lights in the sky and a fake alien autopsies are not real evidence.
