What's the difference between using a blue screen vs a green screen background for inserting special effects later?

The point is to use a color that does not appear naturally in a scene. So when you put the film into a computer, you can tell it to pick out all the green or blue color, and leave everything else. Then you can substitute whatever you want where the green or blue color is. THerefore, if you have something green or blue appearing in the scene, you should use the other color as a backdrop. Make sense?

They're functionally the same. Hollywood switched to the green screen simply because blue is a more common color, making contrast easier for the effects computers.
