But at the moment the pressure guage shows zero and the pump will not kick in

I can thrink of three possible reasons.

1. The circuit breaker has tripped. Check your power first.
2. The pressure switch is bad. See if you can manually jump across the contacts to tell the pump to start.

3. The starting capacitor on the pump is bad. This is a common problem on household pumps. Unfortunately, when they fail, the pump winding will also fail.

Lacking a better outline of your available statistics, the best I can give you is a well educated guess.
Lets assume you have a power source that is both charged and available. Using a test light of appropriate voltage, I would check to see if power is available at the fuse array.
Assuming the presence of power, my next checkpoint is the fuse (s) to see if one is either blown or corroded.
My next check point would be to see if from the fuse to the controller power is available to the controller.
Assuming power is available, I would next look for the float assembly and see if I can effect a switching action through the exercising of the float up and down. (Does it click)?
Does it interrupt power? Did the pump start when moving it's senser?
Assuming the power can be traced through the switch, is it possible to connect a feed directly to the pump motor? Both sides?
Did it start then? If the motor runs when fed directly, you have found a bad controller.
If not replace the motor, but have it repaired. Corrosion inside will often temporarily stop a good motor, but don't be fooled into trusting it either, it could cost you your life.

EITHER YOU HAVE A BAD PRESSURE SWITCH OR YOUR PUMP IS SHOT.
