How can I get co-workers to stop this disgusting habit?

This is one of my pet peeves, too. I also hate to see people lick stamps, envelopes, etc, but the worst is when they cut a finger, they stick it straight in their mouth! Maybe I'm just anal. LOL!
Maybe give your co-workers one of those little sponges in a cup to wet their fingers on. :)

OMG... I never thought about that. That's really gross, huh? I don't think I will ever be able to look at my library the same...
As for the co-workers, I would suggest just asking them to stop. Tell them that it's unsanitary, and you realize the problem is mostly yours, but if they don't do it- they won't have to hear you freak out about it... They'll most likely laugh, but will probably oblige. Everyone has a "thing."

Bacteria can only live so long outside of optimal enviroment (so once the spit dries, they should die in afew minutes).
Virus's can't die, so they could be there forever.
