Provided there has not been a technology similar of convenience already in use, this would defintely be it.

If it were not used, it would probably be due to a "lock-in" period of an existing product. "Lock-in" in behavioural studies refers to people who would rather use an object of familiarity despite better alternatives. The QWERTY keyboard is one such example.

Personally, I would go with scans using retinal and veins in the palm as it does not use intrusive measures to install it.

Absolutely. There has never been discovered a technology which has not been used. Once the genie is out of the bottle, there's no wishing it back in. If you don't make it work for you, someone else will make it work against you.
