I was just reading about that in a sociology text book. I read that the USA is unique in world history because of its diversity.
there are no social norms like in any other nations, although the group in power has, to a great extent set up its morality and religion as the norm, but they are not fully successful.
Conflict theory puts the powerful in constant conflict with the downtrodden. functionalists would say that there is an agreement among the various groups - this keeps the society functioning.

Your question contains the impicit assumption that America's ethnic diversity is a source of strength and resilience, and not more a source of disunity, disharmony, divisiveness.
But, if you want me to answer your question as it stands:
It's a source of strength and resilience because old rich Republican men will always be able to find laborers to fulfill their vision, and consumers for their products.
=
Now consider the opposite question:
Why is Japan's lack of ethnic diversity a source of its strength and resilience?

Lets bake a cake, lets see we need flour, sugar, salt, eggs, milk, chocolate, (my favorite) put it in one bowl and mix them together and we have a delicious experience.
Now lets build a country. First we will have Europeans, Native Americans, Africans, Asians, ect. Put them in a country and mix them and what do you have a great country called the United States. All the diverse ideas and cultures mix and become one and that is a good thing as it makes us stronger as a country.

Sadly, it is not.
It should be, because diversity gives different options and approaches for resolving problems. Different belief systems provide multiple different perspectives, and allow for a greater understanding and greater freedom of choice.
Unfortunately, intolerance and bigotry are rampant, that anyone who believes differently is attacked and labeled and shunned. So, diversity only leads to more conflict, rather than providing options.
