Whine about "democraps".
Where's the conservative "majority" that actually does something.
I agree that, like Republicans, some Democrats want to impose their will on others (oh boy do you have a lot of nerve saying that if Bush and Jerry Falwelhad his way they'rd be a wooden cross up every bunghole in America), but there is simply not enough momentum on smoking to stall history on the issue.
Ask some Pro-Bush televangelists about not caring when it comes to privacy or freedom when it comes to making a dollar.

The cost of smokers on the health care systems is astronomical. Smokers stay in the hospital an average of 25% longer than non smokers, smokers lose more days of work due to smoker related health issues. I don't believe we can politicize smoking. It's bad for you, it's been proven to bad for you, and rather than making cigarettes illegal they are trying to stem the habit via the taxes imposed and maybe recoup some medical costs along the way.

Some states tax the hell out of them some do not. NJ $55 a carton PA $43 a carton DEL.$29 a carton. Thats just an example of three states within 20 miles of my home. It seems the states with higher taxes on everything else hit cigarettes also. And they seem to be the states that are more corrupt in politics.

You know that the Government did something like this a while back.... I'm not sure if anyone realizes how this is becoming just like The Prohibition! We all know how effective that was for society. I mean, could you image what this country would be like if alcohol was still legal?
...
Wait a minute... Oh, that's right, The Prohibition was a complete diaster, and we ended up with what could be the era of organized crime, gangs ran rampent, and neighbourhoods were victimized by not just gangs, but by very large powerful Mafias.
And whatever makes you think this is at all different, than you obviously don't know that smuggling cigarettes from other countries that make them at significantly lower prices is happening right now. This about it, when cigarettes become to expensive to by, or become contraband, is that really going to stop people from smoking? Drugs are banned, yet how shocking is it for you to see a druggie on your walk through downtown?
If they want to kill themselves, go for it. It is still very much slower than just offing yourself in one swoop. How much power are we, the American Citizens going to allow the government to have... Seriously now, they have way more than they need already. It is in our power to slap them in the face, and remind them that without us, they are weak and powerless. Political leaders think of the powers that we enable them with is their right now-a-days...
This is like a call to action here.We must remind them, and the people that blindly think that this is for the good of the nation, that they control nothing, and we as a whole can destroy them if we choose. I love America, and I want it to become the land of the free once again, not the land of the rich and manipulative!
Sorry for making you all suffer through my banter. ^_^;;;;

Because most people only worry about the PC rights and the word "freedom" only applies to their freedom, not yours. They will be the ones screaming loudest when "second hand obiesity", becomes the newest health problem. Let's face it, most Americans don't give a crap about freedom anymore, they just want to be liked by the elite and left alone to live in their fantasy world.

Super high cigarette tax is not right, education is the only right way to stop people from smoking.
I don't smoke, it's very unhealthy, and I really think it's a stupid thing to do, but I wouldn't take anyone rights away by saying they can't smoke, or by raising the price so high, you have no choice, but to quit.
Same goes for high gas tax, it's not right.

I'm not a smoker. but i wonder, if they tax cigarettes today, can they tax baptists tomorrow and green beans the next day. if noticed thru history that things tend to get bigger and bigger as they roll down hill. if they want to tax something, tax perfume, its heck on an elevator when someone drenches perfume from head to foot

Free does not mean that you can cause lung cancer to your neighbours with all the second hand smoke
And also, free does not mean you would get your medical bills supported by tax payers, when you develop lung cancer.
So, dont smoke, and if you want to, then pay-up.

I don't smoke, but I drink, and I'd rather pay an extra dime for a beer than have my income and property tax keep going up indiscriminately. At least I know what I'm paying for and why I'm paying it...
