SURE! I have been battling this beast since I was in elementary school...or longer.
Buy a HUGE bottle of L-Lysiene (vitamin aisle) and take 2 every 3-4 hours as soon as you feel one coming on and continue until the tingling is gone / sore dries up and goes away.
Avoid acidic foods and drinks (OJ, tomatoes, salsa, etc.) as this will only make them spread and last longer.
If it is in your mouth, purchase Alum in the baking aisle at the grocery store. Apply a small pinch to the sore while holding your lip away from your gums so that it can dry. Be ready because it will tingle...a lot!
If it is outside your mouth, purchase Abreva and apply frequently using a q-tip. Before applying 2nd time or more, use a clean q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol to remove the Abreva "leftovers" from the previous application.
To PREVENT cold sores in the future, take one L-Lysiene daily (in the vitamin section of the store).
The L-Lysiene is the real trick. Since it is a dietary supplement, there are minimal side effects...just know that it could cause you to be "backed up" for a little while. Sorry....

Do not be offended by people who say, "Ew" to this form of the Herpes Simplex virus of better known as HSV. In fact, many, many people have some form of it and have taken the "miracle pill" known as Valtrex. This pill (from personal experience) is amazing. It truly is like the commercials. If you are in a hurry as you say to rid yourself of a current outbreak, buy Abreva and stay away from foods that are high in the mineral Arginine such as nuts. These cause breakouts. Take Lysine which counteracts the arginine in your system. Also, try to keep out of the sun to prevent future outbreaks. Learn more at the Center for Disease Control website. Or do a search for Herpes groups online. They will have lists of foods you should avoid and those that are okay for you. Good luck!

Honestly, there is nothing that will be a quick solution. However, you can go to your pharmacy or even Walmart-Kmart and buy what is called L-Lysine. Follow the directions and you should see them lessen in a couple of days or so. You may could call your doctor and see if he can prescribe something, though I don't of any meds that could do that.
This what my pharmacist recommended to me and it worked.
