I would love to know what kind of plants are for winter and what vegtables to plant in the winter. thanks.

it really depends on where you live.What zone?
Here in North Texas, zone 8 you can put out a lot of things, like peas, greens, broccoli, spinach, carrots, radishes, bok choy, etc.
For our flower gardens in winter everyone puts out pansies and ornamental Kale, and peas. There is more, but your best bet is to ask a nursery in your area.

i could plant the stuff i like. And, once you're new to gardening, initiate at a interior sight backyard midsection. no longer homestead DEPOT. they have all the seed and vegetation which will do nicely on your area, and the knowledgeable people to get you started, and help once you decide on it.
