Why did Derek Jeter's hit streak end last night? He hit a ball and got on base... I wasn't in the room when it happened, but when I got back he was on base, and my friends told me he had gotten a hit, but this morning on Sports Center, the bottom line showed that his hit streak was over. Will someone please explain?!?

Jeter reached on an error in that at-bat, but don't fret.

If you'll recall, Torre took Jeter out about a week or so ago in a game in which Jeter got 3 walks and a HBP before he realized that Derek had a 20+ game hitting streak. Jeter reacted by saying "You know, I would never have passed DiMaggio, any way."

If he's fine with it, I'm fine with it. This is why we love Jeter, isn't it?

He reached base on a throwing error which does not count as a hit. He went 0 for 3 inhis other at bats, so his streak is over

Jeter went 0-for-4 in the second game, which probably means that he got on base on a fielder's choice.

According to the website below, Jeter reached on a throwing error by Boston's rookie, Dustin Pedroia.

fielders choice, jeter hits the ball, guy throws ball to another base to get someone else out a jeter gets on safely, its not counted as an at-bat

It was probably an error or fielders choice. His streak should have ended last week when he walked a few times an was hit by a pitch (or two).

It was ruled an error b/c the short stop over-threw it to first. It's not considered a hit b/c there was a clear chance for him to be out.

He probably hit into a fielder's choice.
