Does holding shares go against the principles of socialism?

You can argue it both ways.

- Holding shares is a quintessentially capitalist activity and would therefore only be undertaken by a capitalist or a class traitor. You are obviously a closet facist for even thinking about it.

- One of the aims of socialism has been workers ownership. And what better way to spread the ownership of the means of production distribution and exchange than by owning shares? (When joint stock companies first came into being many socialists argued that this would be the very means of the proletariats emancipation). Go for it.

Yes, unless they are something like shares/dividends i n a Co-Op movement, Credit Union or similar.

Otherwise instead of equitably sharing the profit of product you are profiting from the consumption/capitalist model, when others are not in the position too, and are potentially (probably) exploited to enable greatest yield of profit for shareholders.

You could of course donate all profits to the workers, a co-op or other ethically acceptable model and give them proxy, so all Own the shares, and you are enabling the workers some control over the decision making that is currently leading their too exploitation, if you no what i mean (i do not want to get to technical into socialist theory right now)!

Otherwise like i said, yes it does go against the principles of socialism (everyone is equal, only some is more equal than others, or is that Orwell, you know what i Mean, ha)!
