seriously, i just started a job as a receptionist and it's really boring. the phones hardly even ring. and thats all i'm doing. i'm tired of just sitting there and looking pretty. what can i do to make time go by faster?

This is a great opportunity to prove yourself. I was in the same position a while ago so retyped some of the forms and tried to spruce things up to make them look more professional. My boss loved me for that. You can tidy up the office. Definitely ask your boss if there is anything you can do. If there really is nothing I think it would be okay to read a book or browse the net. You can find games online and stuff. Good luck!

Ask others you work with if they have any projects you can do while sitting at your desk answering phones. It may not be exciting, but it'll make the day go faster and you'll have your mind on something else!

Ask you supervisor if there is anything more you could be doing. It will make you look like an ambitious go-getter, then you will get a bigger raise because you do more than just sit and play on the internet.

Rearrange things on the desk, dust around your area, water the plants, if it's allowed read a good book. That's about all I can think of.
