My beautiful little girl is almost a month old and is having a really hard time passing gas/stools and is in so much pain that she cries through bottles and continues to cry for almost an hour, sometimes longer afterward.
My Dr. is having us switch to Similac Alimentum...after having tried EVERYTHING else. I was just wondering if anyone uses this and what you think of it. We JUST went and bought it, she hasn't had any of it yet. Just curious to know what other moms think of it and whether or not it might help!
Thanks!!
(And just so you know, cause I KNOW someone will make this comment...I tried to breastfeed and I do not produce enough)

O this formula is really a boon for my little darling. We switched him to this when he was 2 1/2 months old. We tried so many different alternative brands until his ped recommended this. Within a week of starting this he got so much relief in his digestion.....no more awful+painful crying due to gas. Actually this formula helps in breaking up the proteins for kids who have a sensitive digestive system or have food allergies(like my son).
The only thing bad about this formula is its taste. My son took 2-3 days to accept its taste. Plus his stool has a really metallic type odor.
But its advantages weigh more than its disadvantages......
My son is 7 1/2 months now and loves to drink alimentum.
I would absolutely recommend u to start giving this to ur baby.
Hope ur cutiepie starts feeling better just like my darling did...goodluck

We have been using the Alimentum Advance since our little girl was about 6 weeks old. She was born 3 months early and has had digestive problems. She can digest this formula easily. We have not had as many problems on this formula as she did on another. Our girl is milk and dairy intolerant and was having bloody stools. That has cleared up since switching as well. We also learned that burping every 1/2 ounce helped as well.

This is one of the more expensive brands. If you go to the Similac webpage you can sign up for their club and they will send you coupons in the mail. It is usually about $5.00 off but every bit helps.

Your story brings me back to when my twin girls first started formula. They cried during feedings, were crabby all day and would grunt, pull their legs up and cry out all night as they slept. We tried several formulas. The doctor had us try Alimentum. They quit crying during feedings but still were uncomfortable all night and were very crabby during the day. We ended up on Enfamil Nutramigen. I read in an allergy book that Alimentum contains soy and Nutramigen does not. We knew they had a soy allergy when we tried the soy formula. They are now very happy babies, cry only when they are hungry and have no symptoms while sleeping.

I would try it immediately. It is amazing how happy they can be when they are feeling good! If it doesn't work, I would suggest Nutramigen. It is also very expensive but well worth it.

Sorry sweetie, but there is NOTHING comprable that is any cheaper. Just the Enfamil version and it is just as much. I would talk to the doc about swtiching. Mine was on that for about a month and I HATED it.....it was so thin, she puked it all back up. It smelled bad, and she was never happy on it. I told me doc if she was screaming 24/7 on $23 formula, she could scream on $13 formula.........thankfully she agreed with me and we tried some other options. we finally landed on Enfamil AR when her gastro confirmed she had severe reflux. there ARE other option to talk to the doc about......Emfamil Gentlease is suppposed to be good, as is Nestle Good Start. I hated the thought of Alimentum because it was so hypoallergenic. I was afraid her little body would freak when she had milk for the first time. I was happy to make the move to AR. Call your doc and ask for an appointment. See if there is something else you can try. And dont' count on WIC. I was staying home with the baby and my husband was working.....three of us on his income alone made too much. It sucked!! I did get some Alimentum on ebay for a fraction of the store cost......since it was sealed and dated, I was okay with ordereing it. that saved me some pretty big $$ I ended up getting some AR that way too. Good luck!!!

My cousin used it for her daughter and it really helped. My son uses Enfamil w/iron but it think i might have to change his formula also. I hope you have WIC because that Similac Alimentum is EXPENSIVE

Have you tried Dr. Browns bottles? They really do give babies less air.

I believe there's a recall on that brand of formula right now.
