Supplemental materials = recommendation letters, gre scores, transcripts

P.S. - I know *I* don't actually send my supplemental materials. I meant should I wait until they will come soon after. I am taking the GRE in 2 weeks and some applications require GRE scores to be written on the application form as well.

It depends on the school, and the department

When I applied to graduate school (early 90s) I was told different things. Some departments gave me a pre-app, some told me to send some stuff to them, other stuff to the registrars office.

Sending everything together is hard to do. You cannot control when the college board sends your GREs, and it isn't very professional to rush your letters of recommendation (and one Ivy League school told me that if the recommendation letters came with the application - they wouldn't consider me - they should come under separate cover sent by the writer).

So, I suggest that you contact the department that you are looking at applying to, and see what they look at.

For the record, I went to the University of Tennessee in the end and had to send the transcript and application fee to the registrars office, and the letters, application, and essay went to the department (and the GRE scores were sent by ETS)

I know I sent in my application for lawschool before I graduated undergrad - which meant that I didn't have my finished transcripts for sure. My lsat scores were mailed in afterwards as well. And my recommendation letters went out probably 2 months after my application.

I got in, without a problem. The schools usually don't require everything in at the same time - and I'm a firm believer of getting my application in early rather than at deadline.

good luck!

1) In most cases, your letters of recommendation should be sent by the professors who write them, not by you.

2) Your GRE scores are sent to the graduate school by the testing agency, not by you.

3) Your transcripts are sent to the graduate school by your undergraduate institution, not by you.

It's usually fine to send in the application itself whenever you have it ready and continue to send or have sent the other materials as they are available.

You might want to call the school and ask them if you can send the app in before you take your GRE and then update them with the scores.
