I say, no harm no foul. If you tell your wife then there only causes conflict between your wife and her sister. Normally I'm all about being honest. But this is one of those times like "does this dress make me look fat" causes you to answer a little differently. Now if your wife asks you directly if something like this happened, then you should be honest with her.

I only have a little barbeque experience but I know that it's important to make sure that you have enough charcoal in the grill. Have some extra as back up as well.
I imagine that charcoal is better than gas.
Wait until tomorrow.

How long did you have your sausage out? This could be the reason you are sick. It could have easily spoiled if you left it at for any great length of time:)
