I live in a highly populated bear area. I can only feed the animals like birds, squirrels etc after the first snow has fallen. If I do it now, I may have a very large, usually agressive at this time of the year, visitor in my backyard. It's actually better to feed birds and squirrels during the winter months only. They have enough food during the summer to sustain themselves. It's the winter they may have a harder time finding things.

We have bird feeders and a bat house! A lot of people get upset when squirrels come; I don't, because I think squirrels are cute. The bats keep mosquitoes away.

I have two bird feeders in the back yard, but I only fill it in the winter and early spring. I feed the ducks in the park occasionally

I used to throw out bread for a raccoon sometimes but I haven't seen it in a while. It comes out and eats our cats' food too. Hopefully we managed to scare it off cause it was getting so brave. It would get within a couple of feet of us and we were afraid it would attack us or the kids. We were just going to live trap it and take it somewhere else, but maybe it's gone now and we won't have to.

Of course, if they are there it means we have built our house in their home. They deserve some form of rent.
