Bacteria grows when a wound is moist. Better that the area is dry and kept clean.

My concern is that the bandaid had bacteria on the part that touched the area of the trauma. By the hands of the person who placed the bandaid. The trauma had a scab and was almost healed.

Sounds like now the bandaid has caused the area to be infected again.

If your child freaks out going to the doctor, is it possible that you can take your child to your local pharmacy and have the pharmacist look at the area and perhaps he can give you an over the counter tube of antibacterial ointment.

Then keep the area dry and clean an it should heal well. Provided your child does not knock of the new scab. An if that should happen just put some iodine on the area an it will be fine as a new scab will grow over.

Wish you and your child the very best.

Current treatment regimes call for covered wounds ,not the old air drying . This helps the skin cover the wound over more quickly ,however the wound should be gently cleaned (vinegar is good as it inhibits bacteria ) each day covered with a little bacitracin ,and a new dressing. Healing will be complete by two weeks . Don't be put off by the looks of the moist scab . It is red from new blood vessels and gooey from proteins .

It's probably infected because you didn't put a band aid on it in the first place. Bandages keep infection OUT. Leaving them off just leaves the wound open for infection. Here's what you do: Take her in the bathroom, pour hydrogen peroxide on her scrape, and put a band aid on it. Change the band aid every night until it heals. Make sure to pour hydrogen peroxide on it every night when you change the band aid so it can clean out the wound and kill the infection. If you let it go infected any longer, your daughter could become septic and end up in the hospital no matter how freaked out she is about doctors.

She is right

Do not air out the scrape - all that does is expose it to more germs.

Keep it covered. Every night change the bandage and put fresh neosporin on it. Don't pull off the scab - even if you think it is yucky. Keep it covered!

Yes it is true, there is less scaring too. Take the nurses advice. To be safe, try a medicated ointment with gauze pads and paper tape. I use this because my child has allergic reaction to regular band aids.

Put some neosporin on it and cover it with a band aid. The Neosporin will help with the infection and will help cut down on the amount of scarring.
