Because the questions usually require an honest answer, and the last thing a Politician will do is tell the truth. They are afraid to until they leave office, then they write a book for an astronomical amount of money, yes more money, telling what happened.

No self respecting politician wants to be quoted, trust me on that. Yes they may spin around the answer but would never jump to conclusion. When my MP Harriet Harman was asked about the crises in the Labour party she neither lay blame on Blair or Gordon camp, instead she appealed for party Unity. Good old Harriet she can spin a political golden yarn around any westminster journalist while jockeying for position as Deputy PM which I know she deserves. Thats what 23 years in corridors of powers does to you. You quickly learn that both fellow politicians and the press are picking your every word with a fine toothcomb.

A politician will not give a straight answer to a question because.
A , They are afraid to say something that can be
misinterpreted by the Medea.
B, They use the question as a opportunity to make a political
speech.

Because they have no sensible answer or reason for all of their actions, instead they resort to telling lies and promising that which is not achievable. In reality politicians are the daftiest of all professionals. Look at Tony Blair and his cronies.

A) The truth would destroy their political career.

B) They want to keep the truth hidden from us.

C) They don't want us to find out how little they know.

Or more likely,
D) They don't give a fig about what we think.

its a natural defence for politicians, they cant take a solid stand on anything untill they have advice from their team.

They don't, they usualy avoid it altogether. Apparently there are about forty techniques for avoiding answering a question.
