Do they have to be in the woods? Has anyone tried to raise them?

YOU CAN! Thing is you gotta prepare a good substrate for them. They love ash, in the form of burnt wood. Thats a good item to incorporate into your soil. You can buy Spawn cultures here and also learn more too.

You need a bit of patients, to take care of the area and a pinch of luck. In a season or two you may be picking some morels!

Morels are mycorrizal with certain trees , Tulip and apple for a couple. They will not establish without this relationship. Even with them it is difficult to get them growing. I prefer to walk tn an Apple orchard in the spring.

Mushroom feed on decomposing matter in the soil and they spred by the spores that they give off that look like smoke when you kick them
