can any symbolic or sociological attachments be made? of course there are facts and figures, ie who patented what and when, but does the bridge have a more important role within our society as far as our conscience and understanding of human development goes?

bridge allows people to move from one place to the other because of this movement people learn something from people across and vice versa. because of this learning process it affects the way people think, act, interact, eat and a lot of things. their knowledge of something increased. a new method or technology perhaps. so the bridge role is not just a physical structure to provide access from one point to the other but it allows interaction, learning, and a lot of things among people.

to some it even encourages people to invest because it is accessible so there is opportunity to do business. therefore to some places it is vital factor in the development of their economy.

that's why there is an idiomatic expression called "bridging the gap" it is not a physical bridge but the word symbolizes something that fills a blank space in order to be connected or intact.

Suppose you might want to consider where the bridge goes to and from i.e. what 2 places it is connecting and then you could see whether there are bridges from 'posh' areas into 'rough estates' and that sort of thing.
