I think there are two groups called "the others," both of which are working together. There's the group from the Dharma initiative. They're the science guys who loke to do experiments. The second group are descendants from the crew of "The Black Rock." They're the ones who kidnap potential lab rats for the scientists.
Although, the Black Rock crew landed there first, they have struck a deal to help The Hanso Corporation collect test subjects, rather than being subjects themselves. The last episode has proven that there are several hatches on the island. I think they are all charged with a magnetic field to draw planes and ships to their doom. Sort of like the Sirens in Greek mythology.
That's my theory. Mind you, knowing the erratic nature of the Lost plot, something may happen tomorrow to completely throw that out the probverbial window!

OMG I did have a theory that they were on the Bermuda triangle, maybe that's why they can't be found. I think that the others were put on the Island along with a bunch of other people and the others had to watch them and keep a note of their mental and physical state after an amount of time. Maybe they were meant to be taken off the island because the experiment was complete, but no-one came leaving them to live how they do.
Maybe the flight that the characters were on was planned so that the others could watch them, or it was a complete co-incidence and the others are bitter because they believe it to be their island.
You know it's just a theory. I think the outcome will be something none of us see coming! Oh and I miss Boone :( He was hot!!

The Others are rouge scientists who feel they are bettering mankind. Desmond will have a larger role. The metaphysical nature must not be forgetton. I hope they go back to that next year. This year may involve some posturing between the two groups. Last year the producers said they had 5 years worth of material.

I think the writers are doing too many drugs.
The stuipd thing has more twists and turns than a bowl of spagetti. Every episode seems to raise more questions than it asks. Frankly, its p*ssing me off.

I think they are all dead, but stuck on the wrong level. Have you noticed eveytime someone 'dies' another one gets better, becomes pregnant etc. They will mostly end up on same level eventually. Except for Jack and Kate.
