With the amount of new home contruction in the Southeast, I can't imagine it would be difficult for a carpenter to find work. If it were me, I would start by doing a local search on Google.com for the city in which you wish to relocate for construction companies. There are many, many construction companies out there. I would call and ask for information on employment opportunities. They will point you in direction of their hiring managers and/or subcontractors.
Good luck to you!

If you just show up in New Orleans or the Mississippi coast, people will salivate at the sight of you. There is a worker shortage in construction right now and they are paying higher than normal wages.
The specifics I do not know, I just know they need people.
So, if you are interested in that part of the country...

Job centre, ads in the paper, online job sites all the usual places and then look in yellow pages etc and get in contact with any potential employers they'll be impressed you've used your initiative.
