every medicine has its own half life anywhere from a few minutes to weeks and some medicines stay in your system for decades. Which medicine are you talking about?

it depends which prescription medicine it was. Different drugs have different half lives. If the medicine you took had to be taken a few times a day that suggests it has a shorter half life so it should be out of your body in hours. If it is a once daily preparation it will take a lot longer.
