i am running mysql and php.... is there a way to add the wordpress blog into my other site? or is there some other script i could use

Wordpress is one of the best open source bloggers I have found. There are many downloadable themes and it is easily customized to your own liking.

There is also blogger.com which I find pretty easy to use. It supports RSS and Atom. I integrated into my site and it allowed me to customize with little effort. It helps to know HTML but they also have free templates you can use.
