then why when I bring a glass of water from a tap outside in a crystal cup, does it retain a transparent color, and not become bluish?

if it deals with the volume of water, why just because there is more volume in one sample should it be blue, and stay transparent in the other sample?

First of all, the blue color of water has nothing to do with the atmosphere. Water is blue.

It is, however, very very faintly blue. Your eyes are not sensitive enough to detect the blueness in a cup of water, but if you take the appropriate scientific instruments to it then it is universally verified that water is, in fact, blue.

So volume is a consideration, but also your perceptive capability. Check the link below if you don't believe me!

The reason why the ocean is different shade has a lot to do with amount of light that is able to penetrate the different layers of water. Thus the deeper the ocean, less light is able to penetratt past a certain point.. If you look at the collor of the water, as it rolls to the beach. YOu will see the water at the surf is clkear

Actually, water is transparent (unless you add color to it). However, water absorbs red light (then orange, & yellow) after very little depth. Light being reflected back from suspended materials in the water is therefore made up of light from the blue end of the spectrum. Shallower water looks green because less of the red, yellow, and orange are absorbed.

Your tap water has been purified and all the gunky chemicals taken off that serve as the silver on a mirror when present in ocean water.

Got it?
