I believe in destiny, but not the divine kind without ultimate justice and judgment at the center. It's simply the rules of causality. Every event that occurs is the result of the events that preceded it. Nothing happens on it's own without sufficient causes to produce it. The thing is that we don't have the awareness or mental capacity to understand every sufficient cause that contributes to an event. Because of our ignorance, it seems that we and other people and things have free-will, but we really don't. Though, I must admit, life is a lot more fun during those times when I can deceive myself into thinking I'm free.

I like the idea of destiny, and sometimes when I'm feeling really low, I will use that to make myself feel better, like 'oh that was meant to be' or 'if it's meant to be, it'll all be okay', but in reality, I think that this passive way of living life and not taking control of your actions probably isn't wise.
If people believe too strongly in destiny, they could 'disconnect' from their lives, leaving everything up to fate. We need to be pro-active individuals, not just sit back and watch our lives go past us as we wait for something good to happen.

Sure, you can mess it up. There's an old saying, 'Character is destiny', so you best be about developing your character, and let the rest take care of itself.

Nothing is meant to be.You have control of your own life. It`s your decisions that make things happen later, not the touch of fate.

No, that would be the denial of free will, and to subscribe to that philosophy would make everything we do, think, or feel futile. And that I can't believe.
