For the most part they were not good. Most of the men I met lied about one thing or another or they were just looking to hook up with someone. They can really feed you a line of crap via email and over the phone.
I did meet one guy whom I really fell for, but he was still hung up on his wife with whom he was separated. He said he was over her but in reality he wasn't. I broke it off with him after he couldn't commit. I was pretty crushed and I didn't date and resolved the fact that most men were liars and cheats and gave up. He contacted me several months later and said he wasn't over her before but he was now and that he wanted to get back together. Sorry Charlie...he was too late! I had been set up on a blind date by a coworker and it's been heaven ever since. I guess when your not looking you somehow find the right one.
I think it's just too easy for people to misrepresent themselves with online dating. One guy turned out to be really psycho and I almost has to get a restraining order against him. My friend knew what I was all about and what I was looking for and knew of someone who would be a good match for me. I'd rely on that much more than someone over the net.
Be careful and good luck!!

Just because you meet someone online, doesn't make them any worse of a person... these are the same people you meet every day on the street, in the store, at work/school/church, etc.
And yes, I have had a couple long-term relationships with guys that I met online... no different from guys I met from other avenues. Those particular ones didn't work out, but then... neither did the ones with guys I met elsewhere.
Although it's important to take precautions, and use common sense before agreeing to meet in person. And I don't feel kids should be willing to take that risk... talk with the parents first, and let them do some due diligence on the other person.

I have a friend that met her husband on-line and I've also met people who date on-line who are chronic liars and just looking for a week or two of fun from someone.
I would say to not let the fantasy carry you away. Meet the person fairly soon after making contact, so that the fantasy doesn't have time to set in. Do it in a neutral place where other people are present. Do not give out your personal information until you have met them a few times and are comfortable with them
I believe on-line dating is no different than any other kind of dating. There are jerks, cheaters and players everywhere just as there are honest nice and caring men. Just use your best judgment and take your time.

All right, I fess up. A couple of years back a met someone online. He was overseas and we were just "pen pals" . I was at a very vulnerable stage of my life going through a divoce, so I got attached easily to him, he gave me attention and provided much needed encouragement and laughter. A few months into the friendship he told me that he "loved me" I told him that he was confused and that that was non-sense. He told me that we could make this work and that I should give him a chance, and against common sense I surrendered to that feeling. After lots of emails, chats, text messages, webcam conversation and telephone calls; I decided to go see him overseas. He was charming and sweet and he gave me so much love and so much life after being dead for so long. We had fun and we enjoyed each other for 1 week. A few months later I travelled again to see him. It was a lot of fun. I met his parents and his friends, it was great. he proposed to me with a ring, I said yes, but I knew that it was imposiible: I was in love and I didn't care what everybody else though about a long distance relationship.
A few months after I saw him for the last time, he called me and told me that it was over. He told me that the distance was too much for him and that he realized that we couldn't be together and that he felt lonely and hurt when he saw other couples enjoying each others company. He broke my heart and I suffer a lot. He never spoke to me again. I don't regret it but certainly, I'll never try that again.
I know two couples that have met on the internet and got married. One of them, however, is divorced now.
Good luck

I met my wife on Yahoo Personals. At the time, I was in London and she was in Chicago. We first made contact on January 15th 2004. We got married on July 21st of that year and we are still very happily married today. For obvious reasons I am a big, big, big fan of online dating.... I know most of you won't be as lucky as my wife and I but what have you got to lose by trying it?

I personally have not, however, 2 ladies within my office met their men on line and both are now married. Once within 3 1/2 years of meeting and the other with 1 1/2 years. So, I guess it does work.

My wife and I met online through American Singles. That was eight years ago. However, she dated several men before me from online dating sites that turned out being just plain weird. Some where married and pretending to be single to get laid. Some were just freaks and it was quite evident why they were single and desperate. Online dating sites can help out quite a bit, but you have to be on your toes to weed-out the good ones from the bad ones.

You asked a lot of different questions. I will answer the "what did you do" part. Just move on! The fantasy is always better then the reality.
My ex husband met a woman online....moved in with her after just 2 months. Needless to say they are no longer together. She lied to him and he lied to her.
Too many people online are here living a fantasy. As I said...just move on.

I met a man on-line and we talked quite a bit on the phone and chatted on -line before I met him in person. We went together for about 3 months and I found out that he is a cross dresser and he is bi-sexual. I really thought alot of him and I was so disappointed when I found out but I'm still his friend and always will be. I don't approve of his life-style but that doesn't keep me from liking him as a friend.
