Your question is very general. What do you mean by "important"? In other
words, important in relation to what?
I am not going to tell you if science is important or not. But I will tell
you what science is so that you can draw any conclusions that you want.
According to one definition, "science" is more than "classified
knowledge"...it is a method of acquiring knowledge. Science wants to
explain things but it is not the only way to explain things. For instance,
astrology, mythology, and religion also try to explain and make sense of
things. This is human nature...we are curious about things and need to
know how and why.
Science is different from these other ways of knowing about the world. It
has four fundamental principles: determinism, empiricism, parsimony, and
testability. Let me explain. Scientists believe that all events have
systematic causes because the universe is orderly (determinism).
They believe that the best way to figure out these causes is by making
observations (empiricism). They also like the more parsimonious (simpler)
of two possible explanations for an event. Lastly, and most importantly,
they want their theories (explanations) to be testable so that their
explanations can be proved, disproved, or modified.

No, I can't at least...do your own homework. You shouldn't ask us to do it for you, especially "in depth". We've already done school.
But science is not as important as your science teacher thinks it is. Science is a learning process of how the world may or may not work.. Science can help cure diseases through discovery or be harmful like when science is used to perform breast surgery for breast enhancement or for contraception that alters the naural cycles of a woman's body.
Science can cause cancer such as raising the dosage of nicotine in a cigarette and it can develop drugs to help people fight a herion addiction while also creating new patients addicted to methodone.
Science can mis-interpret data and arrive at false conclusions, such as carbon dating, the theory of Evolution, and how the Universe was made.
Science can create atomic power for generating electricity and atomic weapons.
Most importantly, Science is important to the scientists, for without science, they would not have jobs and they need to make the mortgage payment and pay for the BMW they drive.
Finally, I have the best answer , quoting myself," Science is the act of man figuring out what God already knows!"
Now you can use any of this and I won't charge you. Just let me know what grade "we" got. OK?
And if you use my last line...hahahaha...you'll get an A or they will call you into the principal's office and lecture you about church and state and how you can't use God's name or something.
Good idea to stir them up a little.

Science isn't really important. We don't necessarily need it to survive. We need food, air, and water to survive.
Science has made our life more complicated, by adding to that list the things we 'think' we need to live.
Science is important is you don't like getting polio, tuberculosis, or dying of the flu. Science is important if you like being able to store food inside your house without it going bad in a day. Science is important if you like not having to go outside to take a crap. Science is important if you aren't the "outdoors type" and living inside a cave just doesn't suit you. Science is important if you'd like to travel more than 23 miles in a single day. Science is important if you like the fact that we all have 24 hour access to our favorite kinds of pornography.
You know, if you like that kind of stuff.

Science, to my mind, is very important and it is what keeps man moving forward and improving his journey through life. Man has a natural curiosity of the unknown and he strives to determine his purpose and position in the cosmos. A complete failure of science would mean a resurgence of the dark ages when very little was discovered in the scientific field.

Science is the key to understanding the universe. Everything we know and make use of is explained by science or created by scientific concepts. It also helps us manipulate things and widens our understanding of the world. It also satisfies our natural curiosity.
