They don't the ipod is an music file player much like my Panasonic cd player and I wear my headphones out at a rate of a set every 2-3 months, so the cheapest of the Panasonic brand I've found in my area is $24.99 after a couple of times that would get expencive, so I stick with a cheaper kind that hold up a little better $8.99 at Wal*$*Mart. It helps to know that at least among cd players the headphone jack is the always the exact same size.

Standard will work; doesn't have to be iPod brand. Just as long as the little metal connection thingy that you plug into the iPod is the same size, anything will work. The plug-in piece is a standard plug-in found on most headsets / earbuds.

It doesnt have to be an iPod branded item for it to work with your iPod. Your best bet is to go to an electronics store and check out what headsets they have. Many companies these days are labeling their products as being compatible with iPod units. I bought a runner's headset from my iPod and it had it labeled that it works with iPod. ($9.99 @ Wal-mart).
