a continuation of diluting(meaning watering down a concentrated solution) one after the other, usually with test tubes to create weaker solutions with lower molarities

The two commonest dilution series are based on 1:2 or based on 1:10, but any factor could be used. In a 1:2 series, you first dilute a portion of the original liquid with an equal volume of solvent. Then you dilute some of that new solution with an equal volume of solvent, and so on. The series therefore results in a 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, etc dilution of the original liquid. In a 1:10 series, the resulting solutions are a 1:10, 1:100, 1;1000, etc. dilution of the original liquid.
