If so, how?! (in layman's terms please!)

Also, will this extend the desktop or will it simply give me a duplicate on a second screen?

Thanks in advance.

This card should have a VGA out and a dvi-i out port on it. As such it can deal with multiple monitors but one of them will need to have a dvi-i input or you will have to buy a dvi-i to VGA adapter to connect the second monitor. You should be able to extend your desktop to the 2nd monitor OR duplicate the first monitor.

Look on the back of your graphics card (where you plug in your monitor). excluding the socket that your current monitor is plugged into are there other sockets? If there is a longish blue one then that is DVI socket and you can plug another monitor into that. If there is a round black hole about 1cm in diameter then that is a tv-out socket. you can plug a tv but not a monitor in this one. If theres's another socket like the one your monitor is currently plugged into then yes you can use another monitor. If you are able to follow this and plug another screen in then yes if you are using XP you can use it as an extension of your desktop OR a duplicate, it's up to you at this point. Oh and if you want to plug another CRT into a DVI socket then you need a small convertor for the plug for about 5£/$8.

If you look where you plug your monitor into your video card is there just one port to plug into? If so you're going to need a new or second video card to plug in a second monitor.
