As someone who has studied singing for severel years and would maybe like to teach it one day I am interested in this question.

When you hear "bad" singers on shows like American Idol, X Factor etc being mocked and laughed at and told to "forget it you can't sing" - how true is that? Could good and patient tuition teach these people to sing well?

Those who do not find singing comes easily - can they be taught to sing well? Is it all instinct? Or can a voice be moulded in the same way as someone who is basically unfit can lose weight and tone up and become fit??

I beleive confidence has a lot to do with it - professional singers sound confident, amateurs often don't and it makes the difference.

I never found singing came easily to me and was told by two teachers I had "no ability" - but my voice did and has improved greatly, through work, to the extent where it is now regularly complimented by other musicians and singers. Is this true of everyone?

I think a "bad signer" could become a better singer with proper training. This is not to say that a vocal coach is able to "change" their voice. Having the ability to sign and sounding good when doing it are two totally different things. I have heard many professionally trained singers who have horrible voices but amazing technique. I guess it just depends on how you look at it!

Well, although i think that with the proper and professional help a singer would improve a lot, i dont think they will be a good singer, according to the definition of the people, finally the voice is a part of ouirselves that we cannot change, and one could find a perfect singer, that properly sings every note, and never slips on high tones, but ultimately is about what the people likes, and if they sucked before the professional help, i think they will continue to suck, but much more less.

Who sings these days? Look at what happened to Kevin DuBrow (sp) from Quiet Riot when he shot off his mouth and exposed a bunch of bands in the 80's.Also look at the Ashley Simpson deal when she started singing and the wrong song was playing on Saturday Night Live. They broadcast a vocal that's been produced and touched up and they just sing along with it .The shows are so theatrical with all these pop singers that there is no humanly possible way for them to sing and do the dance numbers like they do. They barely have enough breath to actually talk between songs , they are huffing and puffing they are so winded.Does anyone actually believe they can sing like that???

Some of the "judges" on AI, XF etc seem more interested in being superior to the singers than anything else, scoring off this poor pathetic person as they crush them underfoot. Others treat it like it's some sort of group therapy session...they want to get all personal and make the candidate cry.
Pavorotti's first music teacher told him he was useless, to go back to working in his father's business, so there you have it. I bet he feels like an idiot now.

ok Mr. Redundancy, i think of i heard your question the 1st thrice. people who can sing do no longer say "i want to be a singer" interior the way that they choose the flexibility of making a song. I propose, frankly, all of us with a pair of vocal chords can belt out a track, the object is whether or no longer that track is, properly, in track. while people say this, they propose they want to be expert singers. And once you point out the objectivity of being "expert", you're lacking the factor. "expert", as in "occupation". they intend to make funds: they want to be singers as a profession decision. on an identical time as i'm particular you incredibly purely want to rant approximately "untrue" performers who do no longer love their paintings and are in it for the money, you additionally can think of of it as: people who gets a commission for a expertise could be somewhat sturdy at it. so as that they probable, in a feeling, are finding for the popularity that they are actually not purely singers, yet sturdy singers.

I will never be a good singer. As for X factor I know of someone who went for an audition, and they were a good singer, like he has been on the radio, but he never went to an audition like the one on TV, as in there is an audition before the audition we see, so next time you hear 'Simon' say, 'don't waste my time' laugh at what Simon says.

If you want to know a very good vocal coach try to visit https://tr.im/wMelP an online vocal coaching tutorial. Everything, ranging from breathing fundamentals, vocalizing exercises, techniques on singing high and low notes, how to not go off-key/out of tune/off-sync, musicianship and music theory, proper diction and articulation, and a lot more are covered, all in our native language. It can be quite technical in nature, but it really helps since it covers the musical aspect of singing deeply and not just concentrates on how to impress people with your vocal range, riffs and runs and other cliches that do not necessarily make one a complete vocalist.

You can always improve on what you've got with a lot of hard work and commitment, to the extent where you're average or even good.

But I don't believe you can develop raw talent. I think its something you have or you don't, and a lot of shows like that its what they're looking for.

well after extensive training a singer can gain control of their voice and apply it to appropriate songs - of course it comes easier to some. However to really be successful there should be a hint of talent before the vocal training otherwise it's nothing special.
