I don't know where you live, but if there is an Apple store and go to it.
I have had IBM, Dell, eMachines, HP's and others. I like my Apple the best. No problems, if I have a question, I call Apple or I drive to the store, I get support, I ask questions they fix things, they explain things.
I will never buy any other.
Apple last year got Desktop, Notebook and server of the year. And this year they are even better. Now are duo core intel. Can run windows if you want.
Get the extended warranty for years of great support.

It is not the computer store that is bad it is probably the computer that you are buying. For the most part Dell has the best deals. But, I would call them and talk to someone and describe how you use the computer and have them configure it for your needs.

The best deal you are going to get is if you build it yourself. If you don't want to do that, well, it helps to know what you will be using the computer for. If it is gaming, I reccomend ibuypower.com. Otherwise, HP has been reliable to me lately, browse their website, maybe call them up and get them to help you decide if you do not know what you want. (Do yourself a favor and stay away from e-machine. They are cheap, but seem problematic for everyone I know who owns one.)

Everything is easier on a Mac. Within 2 months of switching, you'll be wondering why you didn't switch earlier.
