An experiment. Whether you are on the right or the left, tell me one thing you think we( that is, republican and democrat) should be able to agree on and one thing you would be willing to give up in the political discussion. Let's exchange ideas for a change.

I think that we can all agree that all US citizens under 18 should have access to some form of health care. I would be willing to support a flat tax code.

Quid pro quo. If you can't think of something to give up or some common ground, just do one or the other. Let's not snipe, please. There are plenty of other questions here to do that on.

That we need to balance the budget and address the national debt. That means addressing taxes AND spending. They go hand in had.

I don't agree that all citizens under 18 should have access to some form of health care that is unless of course the parents pay for it. If you are poor you already have access to free health care, so I will never support a national health program. Government is just to inept to manage a program of the magnitude it would need to be. The costs would be higher than what it would cost us to provide in a private policy. The flat tax has its merits, but I would want to see a comprehensive study done by an independent panel on the ramifications.

You'd really have to present some issues and you'd have to lay out a situation for this to be a fair question. Otherwise, it's just too vague. I think your point is that neither side would give. This is contrary to the way American politics worked pre-Bush. There was much compromise and bipartisanship between the executive and the legislative and within Congress itself. The problem has been that the Republicans control both branches, and now much of the federal judiciary. The don't HAVE to compromise, and so they don't. When Dems propose a change or a different way of doing things, the Republicans characterize this as cowardly whining.

NO FLAT TAXES!! The poor get screwed and the rich get a big tax break! They get enough at it is!

I do not think that we should have so many HMO's who play doctor, limiting access to medical care, while they pay their CEO's 12 Million a year and their stockholders, who get tax breaks for doing nothing! Not one penny of that money goes to Health care and there are 600 HMO's in NJ!!

We need to eliminate the middle man!

The health care thing sounds good, but the Republicans have been programmed to defend the Insurance companies at all costs,so it wont happen anytime soon.

quid quo pro legislation implies that all of your beliefs are for sale.

i'm not sniping... compromise is great unless it becomes completely arbitrary and meaningless. like it seems to be in our government currently. how many things have been bargained away without our knowledge in exactly this way?
