the same basically,,, the Republican party are backing Libertarian candidates because they won't back their own party,, they back Joe Lieberman,, now an Independent cause he lost the Democratic primary in Connecticut,,, conservative candidates back Bush,, so Republicans are distancing themselves from a loser.

Libertarians and Republicans are NOT the same.

Libertarians are for smaller, less intrusive government
Republicans are for larger, more intrusive government
Libertarians are for personal freedom
Republicans are for suppression of personal freedom
Libertarians are for a fiscally responsible government
Republicans force their budgeting mistakes on the next generation.

The republican party is backing Libertarian candidates (like they backed the Greens in 2000) in hopes of pulling away some Democratic voters, not because they want them to win.
