The main problem I think is that Republican role models are all obnoxious loudmouths that flat lie and spin everything else. When you watch them on tv, their debates aren't about facts but rather who could overtalk the other guy... talk the loudest.
Democrats don't need to do this because we use facts with our arguments. I think that is why the Republicans close their minds to the degree they do... it is more about winning to them.
Republicans reward loudmouth rudeness regardless whether or not they speak the truth.
The main reason evolves around feeding hate, anger and prejudices. Trust me, I know all too well about this in the Republican party, having grown up a Republican and having been a Republican for that reason (ignorance) until the 90s.
Heck, I am even gay and I stayed a Republican because I had been taught and had fallen for the whole 'paint a black welfare face' on the democratic party. They had me convinced that all democrats wanted to give all black families welfare and that all black families wanted to live off welfare, my tax dollars, and have 20 kids.
It wasn't until I went to college and started educating myself on actual numbers that I snapped out of that mentality. It is the mentality of hate, anger and prejudices that motivate you. Btw, numbers like, more white families are on welfare than black families.
A funny thing happens to a person when they begin to realize they have been manipulated. It's not an easy transformation but once you catch them manipulating you once, your guard is up. Then when you catch them doing it over and over again, you finally have to stop and take a look at yourself.
That is what I did and thank God for that. I feel liberated and free of hate.
Today I am a PROUD FAR LEFT LIBERAL :)

I always thought it should be the right man for the job, not a party line. I am not closed-minded and I am a Republican and have been for 25 years. Sometimes the people that we have to vote for are basically saying the same thing regardless of what party they belong to. I'm for the person that can change things in a positive way, not just say the right things to get elected.

It depends. All ppl from all politic views are some what close minded to other points of view. Like:
Republicans are pro life and their argument is that the unborn child has thier right to live, but they also think its "ok" to abort in cases of rape, so i guess they think its "ok" to kill unborns if they were from a bad-****-load, and in that case i would consider them close minded to the core because they are just trying to justify them with an argument that dosent make sense at all and contradicts their first believe which is "every unborn has the right to live".
Now, if they were defending their point of view because they believe in it even tho they can see why you dont then its not a case of being close minded or not, its just where they stand with what they believe.

I don't believe that MOST are closed-minded...some are~
I am not, I do not blindly follow, I seek info and then make my choices....seems most of the time I am in the conservative camp along with other free thinking Republicans.

In my experience I've found both liberals and conservatives to be closed-minded.
Instead of working together to come up with rational solutions to our countries problems they point fingers, sling mud and blame one another for our problems.
