Someone I know is working, but her job doesn't include benefits. Can she get any help for this bill or is she saddled with paying it off which will take her a long time given her salary. (Florida)

There are a lot of programs for people with no money and no insurance but a job - so they don't qualify for medical cards. That is the "fell through the cracks people". Ask if they have a program at the hospital to reduce the payment/due or completely write it off. There is also a lot of drugstores that have contracts with hospitals for medication at cost. (West Virginia) Call the billing office and also call your doctors office and ask for help. Good luck!

Most hospitals have some sort of "charity" to people who cannot pay. However, if you have a job you will most likely have to pay a percentage of the bill. If you know you have to go to the hospital but have no insurance, call the hospital beforehand and ask them if you can set up a payment plan, or get some kind of discount for not having insurance. You will most likely get some sort of consideration.

Take all financial statements (paycheck stub, rental agreement, phone bill, etc.) to the billing department of hospital billing department and TALK to them about possible write-offs or payment plans.

Some cities have doctors who will see her at a reduced cost. Call the local hospital and see if they have a social worker who can help her. Good luck!

Ask about an indigent kit. The administrative office should be able to tell you how to go about applying for one.
