try a shadow base then use a light shadow. Then the eyeliner! Or what works great is use a liquid then a pencil shadow ! more defining! Check this site out for some good eyelid color bases .

You should apply foundation/powder to your eyelids to provide a good base for eye makeup. But it sounds to me like you just need a new eyeliner...smearing is a big indicator that you've got a crappy one. Try a pencil from Rimmel or MAC, a liquid from Almay, or my new favorite, Clinique's cream eyeliner. Very easy to apply, believe it or not!

I would not suggest permanent eyeliner or, God forbid, a Sharpie!

when you wear eyeliner you need to make sure that that day you wont be sweating a lot. I used to use just regular eyeliner but I'm using liquid eyeliner now. I think the liquid is much easier. And just in case it does start to smear be sure to carry some in your purse to reapply.

try lining with waterproof pencil first, then go over it with a liquid eyeliner (or vice versa). i do it that way because if i do liquid first it tends to smudge. the pencil liner will help the liquid stuff stay put, and if you buy waterproof makeup there is very little chance of it going anywhere. also, no cheap stuff! brands like mac are made for the runways (think hot, bright lights, lots of walking up and down, possibly sweating, ew) so you should be ok

good luck

Try using a liquid liner. The art of application takes some time to master, so be patient. Unlike pencils, the liquid dries kind of hard, so it's difficult to smear. Just don't touch it or you may end up with flakey raccoon eyes!

try a liquid eyeliner. once dry it doesnt seem to smear. another alternative that is expensive(once) is permanant makeup. they actually tattoo the eyeliner on. good thing about that is you never have to worry about buying or applying eyeliner again.

hi...i,m abeautician by trade...most of the answers are spot on..use agood base for your skin and then alitlle powder to kind of seal the base........in addition another contributary factor for the smearing is through out the day the skin in the sebacious glands produce oil...and your skin also sweats, thus creating the makeup/eyeliner to smudge..but the base and powder will definately prolong your eyeliners stay power.....hope this helps!

Are you putting some sort of cream on your eyes? If so it will affect your eye-liner and make it smudge.

Secondly, it makes all the difference to use a little more expensive brand for eyeliner. I like Clinique.

Well, mine used to do that too, untill a friend of mine suggested something, and it worked for me. I only buy the liner that has a spongy tip at the other end of the pencil. I don't have to put it on as heavy now and I just blend it in where I put it on. That's all.

I use to have the same trouble, I got so tired of it I started using a "Sharpie", looks even cooler now that they have more colors out instead of just black. I won't smear and lasts much longer, I don't have to apply it daily.
