they exist, just like cars that get 500 miles to the gallon. but W Bush would have to put millons of people out of work if we got rid of the gas guzzling automobile!

I think people are overly optimistic when it comes to how great the future will be. What they should keep in mind is that these things are going to be expensive, and if we don't really need them, there's going to be a small market for all the cool stuff that is supposed to be coming out in the future.

Where are all the 100MPG cars? Where are all the self-driven cars? Law of supply and demand. When more people demand it, companies will supply it.

You can buy all of those things now, but the cost of ownership is prohibitive for most, so the demand is exceedingly low.
