Most people who have answered this question don't know what they are talking about, and I gather by the way you have asked your question, you aren't really looking for an answer anyway- just acknowledgement from others who already share your view.

Religion was one of the causes of 9/11. The Bible was written with the thinking that the Earth was flat and the Earth was the center of the universe and that the universe revolved around the Earth.
When the Bible was written, not much was known. Now we know that this place has been around a lot longer than what most religious people think, which you can never get a straight answer from any religious person about this, but have heard about 20,000 to 24,000 years old. Geological evidence states that Earth is about 4.6 billion years old. There's a big difference there.

I agree with you...
I think that the belief is that if you shout louder and more often than non religous people that they are going to prove something.
To me they just come over as a bit demented.
I am not sure what religion has ever truly created, other than hatred and war (look at what the Popes recent comment have created - BTW he should NEVER have said those things, he must be an idiot). Why fight for a cause that seems to only create death and destruction.
If people believed more in the power of themselves than some unproven theory that makes very little sense, then the world would probably be a safer place to live.

Because they use their religion as a template to live this life. The reasoning is similar to the saying: If you look after the pennies the pounds will look after themselves - Which is only relevant if you live long enough to enjoy them.
Your philosophy appears to be on a par with the Federal Reserves: "if you print prints trillion of dollars, fractional reserve banking will make us all happy"
Or simply: Live for the moment!
This is a seemingly attractive philosophy- A hedonistic approach. which is an odd coincidence because the Fed/Government uses the misnomer of 'hedonistic' accounting to bamboozle us all... But, alas, we will most likely all have to pay the price before we die.

I am a religious person and am always scouring the answers pages to find different points of view which I find interesting and on occasion add comments ...about religion.. about computers..computer games...health..fun subjects etc.
The ammount of questions that are similar to yours and written in much the same format as yours I find amazing.
The format goes like this...
Ask a question in such a way as to make out that the questioner is having fun...taking the mickey ...extracting the urine..having a luagh...winding people up etc. etc. etc.
When I see this type of question I think to myself..gooooood this person has a question about religion..has an enquiring mind and wants to learn.. regardless whether the question is hidden under the previous format ie just for a laugh.
Think for just one moment about the brain thought process..religion obviously trips around your brain often..if it didnt you would never think about it...if you never think about it you would not ask the question...the very fact that you ask the question means that you are thinking about religion..the fact that in your question you mention... the next life... tells that you have a basic knowledge and interest in religion..asking a question means that you are wanting answers about religion..and that also applys to the people who are answering the question even though the reply is in the laughing format...should anyone deny this logic then they are saying that they are carrying out thoughtless, mindless acts..wasting their lifes and efforts in posting these questions and answers for absolutely no reason.
Ask yourself a very simple question.....
If religion has no place in my life then why do I think about it ?

I'm not religious, but have religious friends. I think a lot of people don't get that its not just 'something they do' or a hobby, its a way of life and way of believing stuff. Religious people believe theres a point to what they're doing and are generally passionate about it -maybe thats why they're seen as 'excitable'?

If I lived in 30 - 40 degrees C every day with little or no facilities, I would be excitable as well. Then there are the leaders who brainwash them with the promise of the afterlife and they are so gullible and ignorant that they believe them. I can"t see any other reason why someone would blow themselves up.

I've been working on an alternative religion to share with them when they babble about their own: I worship Space Dog. He's God, backwards, plus cape and helmet, and he rides in the cockpit of a rocket with a lightning bolt on the side.
On Christmas we celebrate "Dogmas" (pronounced both ways), and we even have Saints -- they're Canine-ized. If I took this thing far enough, I could tick off every religious persuasion on the planet. It seems to me it's time for us to push our ridiculous beliefs on other people.

I didn't know religious people were excitable. Go into a pub or workplace and say you believe in God, its the atheist that get excited. If you want some fun , try it, its so easy to wind up the atheist.
